September Winds/Changes
Still jogging in the morning ...don't have the same dedication as I did for the full marathon...may take it up again in the spring and actually fly to Boston to run in the marathon...I did qualify so I have a 3 year window to do it...we'll see...would seem rather pointless to qualify and then not to run.....lots of water under the bridge before that though...
This is my third night of attempting to get on the blog site to do any writing so I will stay up late and try to remember as much as I can....Have been able to put a few more picutures on the computer and have figured out how to access them so will attempt to put some on as I go.
The hockey tourney in Beijing was quite good...fairly reasonable calibre with all sorts of players...Russians, Finns, Chinese, Canadians, Brits and Scots.....quite a pot pourri....some really strong players and nice to watch.....enjoyed the hockey even though it was a little fast for me at times ..I was the oldest on our team....didn't score any goals but played my shifts and kept some of the good guys off the scoresheet....did get two assists...We won the first game 4-2, second 2-1 third 2-1 and lost the last in a shoot out after weird overtimes......3 on 3 and then 2 on two and the one on one.....with no scoring.....finally had the shoot out.....we thought we had 5 players so kept our best until last...but only had 3 ....sooooooo we think that was why we lost.....oh well we had a good time....was a good group of guys and some more contacts here....I told the guy who organized it about the teachers and the way we do our shootouts....2 guys going at the goalies at the same time
They had a pig roast after the last game.....I hope to show that one.....at the new Goose and Duck.....stayed and talked to the owner the night before with Fella and he would like to get some CFL stuff if I can get it over here....I have already emailed the PR guy form the CFL but they don't seem to care about it...anybody got any contacts who have some influence.....kind of p's me off a little....get over it.....
Got to watch the Riders again...shouldn't stay up too late....Doug...even when we don't go to the games together, they can still lose.....oh well, Mark is having a tough year .....Eagles 0=2, Argos struggling.....join the club son
Am going to get a maid...an EI...don't know why they are called that.....she will clean the house, wash any dishes, even iron the clothes I have been told...all for about $7for a few hours....
Have been spending a lot of time at the school trying to set up my year in Phys Ed....and getting things somewhat organized.....need to try to stimulate some interest in after school activities...but the students seem to leave here too early for anything to happen...had the kids outside yesterday playing 500 and today we played scrub in the gym...hope to have them somewhat aware of softball because we may be able to get the Canadian female softball team here to demonstrate their skill and then it woud have some impact
Have used up some of my comfort food...licorice....shreddies....green leaves (1 bag)...yesterday I bought some sugar ( I thought) and had quite a surprise when I ate my shreddies ( last of em too) and found they tasted a little too salty for my tastebuds....
Have figured out (I think) how many sets of golf clubs to order.....now I will just the ordering done and start sending them back....I hope to buy one of those three wheeled bikes and pedal them to the post office in it....I have Riders logos to put on and myaabe for a buck or two I coud get it painted and detailed so that it would really stand out.....some guys even have stereo put on with radio or through their mp3 palyers ot something.....not sure.....
Has been rainy and dreary here for a few days and I actually say some clouds in the sky today.....no pollution....oh, ok there ws some off to the south...I think it was the south.....have a view that looks over to the park but they are building something so there is lots of scaffolding and banging and hammering and machinery going almost all of the night..... have been eating out at different place more often...there is a very large selection of restaurants here and they are fairly cheap....probably less expensive than cooking your own food..unless you had a live in maid.....which probably would be cheaper in the long run.....
Just when the guards here were getting to know us and also some English words...they just changed the whole kit and caboodle?.....so we have to break in a new set...I guess that is the Chinese way...I have had some good chats with the owner here and have been able to get some good things accomplished and have a good relationshiip with him.....
We went out on Teacher Day last Monday and the owner took us to a local restaurant and the booze and food was on him....sooooooooooFred Savoy (my golfing buddy) and I decide to drink everyone else's share too...we gumbei'd with the best of them.....cheers....mixed our red wine with the beer and ended up not remembering how we walked home......I remember getting up to leave and waking up at 3;30 still in my RIDERS suit but in no condition to jog...in fact I missed that morning for some reason....oh well, one of these days
Fred is my age and a damn good golfer.....he went into a Chinese version of the Ryder Cup ....and they did it up like the real thing...his team (North America won) and he was able to be a contributor to the winning points...winning two matches and halving another...if I know what that means.....said it was an awesome experience...
Have had a few more dates with Rosamund....we enjoy each other's company...she says that sounds like two old farts......it is good to have diplomatic immunity when she drives.....but it sure is interesting.....she has made her decision to leave Beijing and is looking for another posting....she is hoping for Europe I think.....that way she can be closer to her son.....and out of this pollution which is affecting her breathing......well it affects everyone';s breathing I think....she actually came and watched the hockey game (match) as they call it in Australia...was interesting to hear how she talked about the game...forgot some of the words she used but is was diffierent than the norm....she actually wanted to come to the Philippines for the break but cannot get away as that is the time in her office that all of the Chinese staff leave so she is sort of left keeping the ship afloat....
The internet here has been shaky.....many times I cannot get on and it is frustrating too....have managed to find out how my expensive cell phone can now be used as an FM radio,,,making progress aren't I.....still haven't mastered the GPS or 100 other things on it but it sure makes interesting converstation when you don;t know how to shut off the ring tone......

Didn't make it at the blogging this weekend.....made a trip to Tongzhou (where I was last year ) to clear up a golf driving range concern that Bob has...we have about 5000 balls left to hit....Biked to the subway and took the subway there...met Eric...he helped with the translation and then came back to a traffic jam....while I was biking there was a (and I am guessing) 6 block at least 4 lane tie up.....people were getting off the busses and walking because it was faster.....that is the second time I have seen that.....
Met up with Fred on Saturday and we went to the Silk market and the Yashow Market to negotiate prices for the clubs....we are up to about 30 sets and now have head covers and a travel bag too....went for dinner at a place called the Purple Haze ....it was a Thai restaurant.... Rosamund and I checked out the three wheeled bikes ...we didn't find any but we saw a place that sells them but they didn't have my style...she bought two crickets to keep over the winter.....I guess they do that....big guys too....they are bigger than our grasshoppers....probably locust size.....not sure how they will survive.....then went out with Henry ( my Mongolian friend and a girl he knows) ...along bar street...known for the number of bars....we sent to about 4 of them....neat guy...is the only rep in China for a new company from Virginia....
Sunday went to the Pearl Market and bought some.....as well as some hats and glasses for the kitchen and a butter dish....took a little while to do all the negotiating......that night went out to our hockey game at 8:30 ...ooops no refs....we won again...6-3...apparently they had won only two games all last year....a couple new players and it is a whole different ball game.....I hope to get my number 12 with Wallsy on the back of the jersey...they are pink...we are the Hot Wings....if I can't get 12...Fella thinks that someone else may have it....I chose number 9.....I thought of having my name spelled in Chinese on the back but the rest of the guys have English or Pin Yin...stopped in for that proverbial one after the game that turned into three...but Brent and I caught a cab and didn't stay for all of the festivities...didn't get hardly any work done over the weekend so will have to prep for a few days now....
Run was good this morning.....you can notice the weather gettting a little cooler at night....
Riders lost again....woops ...too much optimism at the beginning of the season....ah well it will all come out in the end
Passport needs to go to the office tomorrow and then I hope that I have it back for good...a screw up with our salaries (again) so it will take at least one pay cheque to get it straightenend out....
Well so much for my computer ability...have some photos in my mail but can't seem to put them on...maybe next time....I think I will try a complete picture one...one of these times.....pver and out from the site of the 2008 Olympics....oh yeah, I now they are here I had to pay for the 8 tickets....about 200 dollars ...reasonalble eh

I sure am impressed with your 2 assists in hockey...
I am changing all the time - chekc me out - Mom figured out how to put videos on and I have 2 - one in my jolly jumper and one where I am doing "motorboats" I spit a lot but holy cow I am soooo funny
