My last blog for this school year

Silly me ...hit enter so you will get a real short one and then this one.....complete with no pictures at least that is what I am thinking

If you missed my late and great news...I have succeeded in landing the physical Education position at CISB Canadian International School in Beijing....I will be teaching grades 7 -10 and that is it.......it is a new school with virtually no background in pe so we will be creating new territory.....good....I am really excited to be going there.....lots of different opportunities.....I know many of the staff members there and they were good to play with...and work with.....we went on several trips together.....they already have one planned for the Philippines this October so I think I am in and will go....the school runs a regular school year and has the same holidays as the schools in New Brunswick except that there are no Snow Days.....hahaha....it will be a challenge as they want to get sports teams up and running and get intramurals and all that fun stuff....from what I see the kids are a little reluctant to do much...especially the girls....sweating you know and the fact that they would have muscle and might actually get fit....they are really weight conscious here.....oh well as I said, it will have its challenges.....I have already done some ordering and will be working with the other pe instructor in the elementary side...will be given a new Mac computer to work with....oh right I am a real technological wizard.....but I have seconded one of the staff to get me up to speed and may be able to bring it back to Canada to get used to it......yippeeeee

Couldn't get on this for the longest time so have forgotten almost all that I was going to tell you

The days are down to the teens by the time you get this....am leaving on July 11 for Vancouver, Calgary and then Regina. Will meet up with Janet and Tony in Calgary for a couple of hours and then fly into Regina.....Good old Zone 3 has a barbecue meeting and I have been invited...am I the expert .....the person from out of town who will come to their meeting.....really happy to have a chance to see all the hard workers and players from Zone 3 and will have a chance to find out how that "amalgamation" thing went.....also a chance to show off my golfing lack of skills.....and then the Rider game on Friday....what a way to start off a Sask holiday....and with fresh air no less...then Reba McIntyre on the weekend.....who wouldn't wanna be me...oh, is that Toby Keith....

Went out on a run with the Beijing Hash House Harriers...the Drinking Club with a Running problem.....the name fits....we actually went to a resort by the sea and the air was somewhat cleaner.....Rosamund and I drove down instead of taking the 6 hour bus ride...thank goodness...had a good chance to talk about our lives and comment on the traffic.....there was an accident that held up traffic for about 45 minutes as a semi had sprawled across the road...probably about 5 minutes in front of us.....the traffic was backed up for many kilometres....in fact the bus that came in at about 1:00 still said there were still problems at the site and the traffic was still slow.....it was actually quite a site....we think 3 people may have been killed but we couldn't decipher the Chinese

Saturday morning we played a little football on the beach....I was qb for one play ....we scored a touchdown and then was not allowed to play that position again...maybe I was upstaging somebody or sumpin....had a good time though...it was hot and good fun with the boys and girls who played....people from all over again....Australia, US, France, Canada, China

The run was good...it was up and down terrain and was a little like a pursuit of some runners who set the course....we actually ran on part of the Great Wall..but in China that is a lot of places... it took us about 1 1/2 hours to do the run....there were several people who walked......then after they have a circle where they drink beer and calm down and tell lewd jokes and make silly phrases and really act kind of like your adolescent fraternity house kind of get together..this was the part that I didn't like....but it seems to be the thing for the group

Had a booze up when we got back with our meal.....had some spirited and off colour songs to sing which I didn't know the words to.....but the Chinese spectators who watched us as we were on the sidewalk must have had an interesting impression of ex pats who get a little drunk....not my coup of tea so to speak

Next day a short run and then another round of the songs and silliness and a lunch and then the trip home......Rosamund let me drive on the expressway...I don't think she like to drive...she said it is too dangerous and the Chinese don't know how to drive...well it was an interesting time again...they pass on any side...sometimes creating 4 lanes if the three lane highway gets a little congested ..and they signal occasionally to show that they are passing.....trucks are in all three lanes and can ll be traveling at various speeds...you have to be on constant watch in your mirrors and the horns honk a lot....just to indicate that you are being approached and to watch out...speed and directional signs are just suggestions...I was (yeas I really was) traveling 120 kph and was constantly being passed...the speed limit was either 110 or 120....but it was only a suggestion...there was a lot of road repair and the funniest thing happened at one of them...traffic cones are used to herd the cars off to the side right...and then the traffic narrows to 1 lane..well not really....some cars started traveling on the inner side of the cones next to the workers and then pulling back into the line that was where it was supposed to be..I became a true Chinese driver then and there....I was in with them doing exactly the same thing...just butting in like they would do.....quite a good lesson....still would find it quite difficult to drive in city traffic...but I can say I have driven in China...and in a diplomatic car no less

School work has been off and on....my grade 11-8 are on but my 11-6 are off....and they are in automatic pilot mode and aren't putting in any effort in the last while...one of the students in my 11-8 class scored a perfect score in his SAT (Student Aptitude Test) in mathematic and physics......he is a great student..and can be a real pain as he tries to pull philosophic bs on me in his English and I have to call him on it....we have daily chats.....but this class is really good and will be one bad thing about leaving here....

In my Wetlands group, we have finished the major portion so I have been filling in some periods taking the students off campus....we have been to the Water Works museum, the Science and Technology museum, the Beijing aquarium, the Planning Exhibition Museum and the Badaling Wild African safari......kids like it and I get to see a lot of different places here.....it concludes next week with some presentations.....that's it....I am going to buy them all an ice cream treat becasue they worked while others were playing soccer, or kite flying or watching movies, or cooking or ...well you get the picture....

Starting to pack some stuff already for home and will blow my next payday on stuff to take home so if there are any requests, get them in early.....some are leaving a little earlier but I will be leaving at 4:20 and the majority of others at 5:30 or so...Don and Eve are going to Thailand to wind down before going home.....a good idea.....I will be packing up most of my stuff and sending it over to CIS for the summer.....most of it can fit in one suitcase.....well maybe two.....but that is about it....set of golf clubs and a bike....and clothes and so miscellaneous stuff....

Weather gets damn hot here....something like the real hot days in Sask...so these Maritimers have a rel problem with the dry heat or the heat in general.....

Still no debit...and that sucks.....I'll tell you...oh well maybe this week....Herbert promised...

Had a chance to talk to Jennifer for a while.....Mark never seems to be online anymore.....we chatted for about an hour.....got to seen Kenzie and I almost thought she was thinking about walking....talking well no, but walking.....maybe a couple of weeks....will be great to be home...

Have a lot of little administrivia things to do when I get home so will have to try to get organized....yeah I said organized...hopefully before I go back...

No news on the Olympic tickets...they are supposed to be decided by the end of June but I am not sure with the people in charge here.....

Enough for now...I may get back on here tonight....

Played only two games of slopitch and then had other more pressing things to do..may get back to it next year....one good thing about CIS is I may be able to get into some hockey next season and also there is a squash league here on Saturday mornings...something I have always wanted to play....hope my knee will allow me to play....plus we are right on a subway line so will be able to get anywhere in the city fairly easily....and fairly cheaply...I'm thinking next year will be more productive for me.....even though I think I did ok here this year......you also get a better apartment and it is by yourself.....may buy a big screen tv to use with the sling box....definitely more tunes...and maybe more concerts on DVD....

Have some correcting to do tomorrow...and then I will be free for the weekend.....think I will go over and drive a few balls at the driving range.....only have about 5000 left before we leave.....not sure if we can hit that many....hasn't helped much....I can hit ok theere but don;t seem to translate that to the course.....

No photos but I will put this on....you may not hear from me again on my blog until I get back into Canada...have a great summer if I don't get to see or talk to you ......will catch up with you sometime.....

Darryl

Ok Grandpa
1st of all didn't Mom and Dad teach you anything - it is Keith Urban not Toby Keith...ha ha ha

Second of all, when you get back to Regina you can drive your Honda Civic at it's usual 90 km / hour.. I've heard the stories abhout this infamous car
ha ha ha again

I must admit I am pretty damn clever but walking??? Talking is closer as I babble lots and smiles when you talk to me...I can hardly wait to meet you...even complete strangers come up to me and tell me how beautiful I am and how lucky Mom is...good genes I guess...Dad's??? ha ha ha
